Deep Rest
Join us on a Journey of deep rest.
Take your life from overwhelmed and exhausted to rested and purposeful in just 7 lessons.
What is deep rest (and what happens when you practice it)?
Deep Rest is a state of profound relaxation where your body and mind experience restorative benefits—far beyond ordinary rest. When you integrate Deep Rest into your life, you may find a new sense of calm in your daily routine, feel more deeply rooted in your purpose, and finally reach a state of sustained happiness.
Why is it important?
Imagine your life without the feeling of always more to do or not enough time in the day. Imagine no longer feeling like you need 4 cups of coffee just to make it through your morning. This is what deep rest can do for you.
How is this linked to Equity and Inclusion?
Cutting edge neuroscience is now proving that who we are internally and within our nervous systems, affects not only ourselves but those around us.
This is directly connected to Power, Privilege and Oppression because if we are carrying around certain prejudices, discrimination, certain views of others, it impacts them.
A quote from Dr. Sara King is, “Well-being = Social Justice”. She explores the intersections of well-being (for all) and social justice.

We are all tired. Really we are.
It’s a hard road, but it’s also a beautiful one.
Perhaps we expect too much from ourselves and others. Perhaps humanity can only make slow progress, like an inchworm.
Perhaps we need to celebrate how far we have come more often.
And rest more.
And relish the simple pleasure.
And look for love everywhere.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
T.S.I.D is an approved RID CMP Sponsor for continuing education activities. This Professional studies program is offered for 1.5 CEUs at the “Little/None” content knowledge level by both RID Professional Studies and BEI Ethics.
This 15-hour (1.50) PPO CEU course will guide individuals on a journey toward resting more deeply. We will delve into not only the science behind deep rest but also engage in exercises that promote and demonstrate deep rest. Students will learn how deep rest, such as through meditation or relaxation practices, can facilitate changes in individuals views on others by promoting relaxation, reducing stress, and fostering a more open and receptive mindset. Overall, deep rest can play a valuable role in promoting positive changes in individuals views on others by fostering relaxation, empathy, open-mindedness, and self- awareness. Deep rest practices can help individuals transcend rigid thinking patterns and challenge stereotypes or prejudices they may hold about certain groups of people. By promoting relaxation and openness, deep rest can create the conditions for individuals to engage in more nuanced and empathetic ways of perceiving others.
Additional info: Cutting edge neuroscience is now proving that who we are (internally), and within our nervous systems (history/trauma/influences), affects not only ourselves but those around us. Who we are when we show up to our work as interpreters is affected by our nervous systems/histories/influences, etc. This is directly connected to Power, Privilege and Oppression. If I am carrying around certain prejudices, discrimination, certain views of others, it does impact them. In addition, if my well-being is lacking, this directly affects others. My well-being is tied to social justice-the social justice of myself and others. I follow the work of Dr. Sara King (and others). If you have 20 min, you can view this video which demonstrates what I am presenting. She is connected to a world-famous neuroscientist Dan Siegel PhD who also does research in this field. I include her work in my courses. A quote from Dr. Sara King is, “Well-being=Social Justice”. She explores the intersections of well-being (for all) and social justice (as shown in her research and the video I shared with you) and the collective connections we all have through neuroscience.
I use her work, the work of others, my own research, and the field of self- care/mindfulness (well-being) and have created this and other courses to address and disrupt currently held beliefs that who we are does not affect others-it does. I connect the aforementioned to our work as interpreters who work in a field where social justice is critical. If well-being=social justice, it makes sense that our well-being is important.
- LEARN the science behind deep rest and its connection to changing one’s view of the world
around you. - PRACTICE deep rest exercises to connect more deeply to the actual practical aspects of deep rest and its connection to a more just and equitable world.
- ENGAGE with research that demonstrates the importance of deep rest and how this connects to how the students’ see their internal values matching their external worlds.
- INCREASED EMPATHY by engaging in deep rest practices which involve cultivating empathy and compassion towards oneself and others.
- ENHANCING COGNITIVE FLEXIBILITY by helping individuals quiet the mind and create space for new thoughts and ideas to emerge. This mental clarity and flexibility can enable people to challenge preconceived notions and consider alternative viewpoints more readily, facilitating shifts in their views on others.
- CONNECT WITH OTHERS by fostering qualities such as patience, understanding, and tolerance. When individuals are well-rested and less stressed, they may communicate more effectively, listen more attentively, and respond with greater empathy and compassion, strengthening their connections with others.
